Commentaries on Contemporary AI

Overture

This essay will seek to speak to the intersection of AI & consumer decision making.  To exist, AI requires a machine (A) and a human (I).

Often AI discussions, meander to the notion mentioning fear (damage emotionally as well as damage to material property).   Fear of AI is the fear that humans will cease to control the AI and somehow become “slaves” to our own creations.  We take the position that such discussions are best left to fiction (movies, books, and certain blogs).

Our view is that settled science tells us that actual AI sentient is decades in the future if ever!

The case for AI “Agents”

What AI brings us in real time (in our current world) is an AI that is helpful and fascinating, appealing, and even charming.

To elaborate, Agents are maths-based models that are the apparatus connecting AI to its everyday use.  Primary, Agents are deployed from 1) Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) & 2) Reinforcement learning.

Remember it is critical that AI is expected to help in everyday duties

A point of consideration is the movement to automate decision making in contemporary business [and society].  It follows well that the expurgation of arbitrary and inconsistent aspects of faulty decision making be prohibited from the design of our AI.    Ethical standards in AI-Science are a must.  All of us in this trade are expected to embrace the highest level of behavior with respect to ethics.   We encompass the notion of safety as a component of fairness, accountability, and transparency.  And, we take the position that ethics is a prime driver of successful AI development and deployment.

Our next trope will cover the connection between building Agents with ethics.
